To Mother

To Mother

A Poem by Rita

I come back with a heavy burden,
All the mistakes that I have made,
The rocky roads that I stubbornly took,
And the prices to be paid.

I return with a lump inside my throat,
Words that have been left unsaid,
The things I knew you'd love to hear,
Still fresh inside my head.

Numb with bitter knowledge,
That the flow of endless tears,
Cannot pay back the wisdom you gave,
And your patience throughout the years.

I wish I could tell you how great you've been,

But I guess it's a little too late,

You're probably fussing over skinny Gabriel,

Behind Heaven's brilliant gates.

So when I look a little underfed,
Or my make-up is just too much,
I'll remember what you'd always say,
" It needs a mother's touch."

Rita
I was just pondering on the lack of appreciation we all show to our mothers. I also had a fight with Mom today. :P

There is great wisdom imparted here in this lovely flowing poem.

"I return with a lump inside my throat,
Words that have been left unsaid,
The things I knew you'd love to hear,
Still fresh inside my head."

These lines were just brilliant and jumped off the page at me. Genius!
