If Only

If Only

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Wine is bottled poetry. - Robert Louis Stevenson

"

Poured a single glass,

daydreamed it was a pair

One for me,

in reality

One for the

phantom visage

you now wear

If only

you were here

for one small sip

of time

The glass would be all yours;

The shadow would be mine

Took this the other night, just thought it was cool the way the glass was casting the shadow on the wall. Tossed it around a bit in my mind...

Gosh, Rita!
Not only do your title and picture choices perfectly set the tone and mood for this amazingly beautiful work of poignant tenderness; the emotional yearning and imagery truly entice, caress, and embrace the reader's own passionate desires.
No beginner poet rendered this enthralling work … your poetic voice speaks softly into my depths.

Thank you for sharing with us, Dear Rita, and congratulations on your win in Dani's contest, with this marvelous piece of sheer wonderment … hugs to you! ⁓ Richard

Thanks so much, E! It's been so long since I've been here - this was nice to come back to! :)
I can feel this one in my bones...many a time I have sat with a glass of wine and lament the lack of social interaction that it encourages. It's like wine was never meant to be sipped alone. Anyways I'm just being mopey haha There is a painful simplicity that grips me here...one for me in reality...you can say that again my friend. A lovely and very relate-able piece Rita :)

Lovely...your poems are often times so short Rita, that I yearn for more when I'm finished. I liked the idea behind this one, it makes me think of something I read once, that reality as we know it is actually a daydream while dreams and things of finer substance are the more objective reality. Nice one

This is so sad. I felt the loneliness in the poem. I love how you convey emotions to the reader. Great job :)

Thank you so much, Shaquana
You've definitely conveyed a mood of loneliness. The words are like the rungs of a silent bell. This one is a little difficult for me to read because it resurrects past pains in my life from so long ago. Now, I have to pinch myself each day to remind me love is real.
