One Single Grain of Sand

One Single Grain of Sand

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

In the grand scheme of things, it can only mean squat.

"

One single grain of sand,

        pebble

                stone

                        rock

                                boulder

Our own significance,

in the eye of the beholder

A tiny drop of water,

        puddle

                creek

                        river

                                ocean

Humanity has given itself

the ultimate promotion

The smallest little seed,

        sprout

                bud

                        sapling

                                tree

There’s hope still for our growth

and all that’s yet to be

I liked the cascading effect of your words, Rita...it gave us a wide-eyed perspective to that single grain of sand!

hank you so much, Maggie - appreciate it!
I really like the formatting for this....descending as things get bigger..
like devolving...but there's a breaking point in everything and things cycle...there's always growth, hopefully as you said in more good ways than bad...clever write!

Thank you so much!
All it takes is a ripple in the pond to start a tidal wave on the other side of the world...or so my grandmother used to say. I liked this one; a good metaphor for humanity, and the way that things run in cycles--hopefully we are nearing a cycle of understanding and greater empathy. Nicely written, Rita.

Ah... The expanding universe theory...
You explain the greatest tool to defy the principles of entropy.
I think you could write thus poem backwards as well.
Good job.
