Away with Words

Away with Words

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

I really need to get away,

I have no funds, but that’s ok;

I’ll curl up with a publication,

riding the pages of a free vacation.

A magazine could show me the stars,

the ones in the sky and in Hollywood bars;

novels take me to many places

with wild adventures and romantic embraces;

poetry may lift my mood,

whether emotion, humor, or wisdom imbued.

No need for a plane or a fancy cruise ship;

 just pack your mind and book a trip!

Thanks, Sharon!
This is really great! I like the rhyme pattern used and the overall cheery feel appeals. Also, nice pun at the end :)

Cheer and puns creep into my poems a lot... :) Thanks, Mutterer!
A beautiful way to get away for some relaxation and fun, vacationing through reading. Good imagery and descriptives. Flow is good as is the line to line transition and breaks. Nice rhythm. Rhyme is good as is the rhyme scheme. Good depth of feeling. I already do this Rita, so I really enjoyed reading your poem about this activity. I especially like these closing lines:

"No need for a plane or a fancy cruise ship;
just pack your mind and book a trip!"

You couldn't say it any better. Well penned. Write on!

your very much welcome :)
i can't help but be reminded of the science fiction novel "Farenheit 451" reading this...where would we all be without books? today's youngsters are adamant that print is dying, but i am quick to remind them that everything is print on the internet and you cannot visit a site without using it. the tactile sensations and the wonderful smells of an old book, in my heart...there is no substitute! you have not waxed cornball here, dear Rita...you have shouted the joy triumphant!

Oh, don't be sorry. I love it and it is just exactly how I feel at times.
I have often told my husband that I need a "day of escape" and I crawl into a chair and "escape" into the written words of worlds that renew my thought processes.
Love it as you have captured my thoughts exactly!

Thank you, Jacob - I had forgotten about that one... :)
It might be corny, but it did make me smile. This has been me in a nutshell this summer. First time I haven't really traveled anywhere at this point in the summer in four years. Books have really helped take me places once again, as they have done since I was a young boy. I liked the play on words in your title and in your last line. It's true, books are less expensive than those trips! They truly are good pickups when we can't physically change our locations.

Smiling at my bookshelf as I read this one again :-)
