Pick of the Litter

Pick of the Litter

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Who chose whom?

"

Honey was a lovely dog,

A Labrador of yellow

Her mate went by the name of Champ,

A virile chocolate fellow

They had three litters of Lab pups

All as black as coal;

One from litter number three

Would make our family whole

We had to choose among the nine,

A difficult decision;

All were so adorable,

All perfect in our vision

But one sweet puppy stood out strong

Her temperament arose

When my husband picked her up,

She nipped him on the nose

That was it; we knew it then

No need for prolonged fuss

That is how we got our girl ~

Frankie dog chose us!

Ah so pure and unconditional love. Congrats on the award but it takes no award to feel the love that radiates from this lovely poem.

Thank you, Blue. She is my best reward, and one I am not sure I deserve... :)
awwwwww this is so cute. I had a dog who had 4 babies. We kept the girl Angel, but paul, noname. & scruffy had to go. Don't have them anymore though. I have 2 dogs right now. 1 I bought & 1 was found alone starving by my daughter. Pepper is the one I bought MoJo is the one we found. Both are Shih Tzu & pepper is a terrier Shih Tzu

Dogs are just amazing companions... My Frankie shows up in a few of my poems. :) Thanks, IHD!
waaaaaaaaaw! I love puppies. My personal favorites are big yellow dogs or a red dog but I had a Lab as a teen, and as an adult - two chocolate lab springer mixes - they looked more like Labs but were a little smaller and they were adorable. We have heeler/aussie shepherd mixes now. Such a sweet poem and I totally understand - its so hard to choose when they are so cute!

yup - every retriever I've ever had the pleasure to know has been a love sponge. Its awesome.
SO adorable Rita, I think this happens quite often actually. Dogs are smart, they know if they make a fuss over us, we can't resist their affectionate wiles. A smile on the page!

Thanks, Frieda - yes, dogs know what they want, and know how to get it!
My son recently acquired a pitt bull, and I was scared to meet her. But she won me over very quicky by asking politely for my attention when I was talking to my son. She placed her paw gently on my arm and I was hers. What a sweetie she is! Loved your poem and your graphic. A real treat! Hope you, your family and your new pup live happily ever after!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, beautiful!!
What a sweet story... choosing a puppy is a big decision... but the right one somehow stands out... when I was young my sister picked one because it was the runt of the litter, they said it wouldn't live more than two years but she didn't believe it. That dog never had a wet nose like normal dogs do and ate chocolate all the time which is suppose to be bad for them, It lived 16 years.
