What Will You Eat?

What Will You Eat?

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

on Thanksgiving...

"

Mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy

roasted Brussels sprouts

What’ll I eat on “Turkey Day”?

Plenty ~ have no doubt!

Cranberry sauce and stuffing,

buttered, fresh green beans;

the only things my plate will lack

are poultry-based proteins

A glass of wine, some pumpkin pie,

perhaps a cordial shot

So many treats I will enjoy,

who cares about the “not”

Like yours, my table will be full

of blessings which abound

not in the serving platters,

but the loved ones all around.

Every year, I get the question, "What do you eat on Thanksgiving?" The answer is simple: everything but the turkey! :)

Couldn't have said it any better. I can see the feast now, and so can my little ones. Great poem.

hear that I do:) Welcome Rita:)
Beautifully written, Rita. There are vegetarians in my family and they have no problem filling their plates...and their bellies...on Thanksgiving. Pass the stuffing! :) Lydi**

my pleasure to read ! (( :
I'll eat your turkey, Rita! I love how you made this about loved ones and not just stuffing your face. My family is going to spread out, it will just be the four of us this year. We will make some lasting memories. Happy early Thanksgiving, my friend. Angi~

And to you, Angi. One more thing to be thankful for this year - my friends at WC. :)
I always feel sorry for turkeys at this time of the year, especially so for the intensively reared ones !

A poem that nourishes the soul with bountiful helpings of kindred spirit!

How sweet! Thank you, Tom! :)
Except for the Brussels sprouts, I'm ready to dig in. Very entertaining and, of course, well-written. I hope you are entering this in Angel's Thanksgiving contest because I doubt there will be any submissions that are better.
