Outpouring

Outpouring

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

Poured sweet liquid amber

In memory

Which overflowed,

Spilled over,

Flooded…

So I poured another

Trying to forget.

Toasting to the memory of a person is truly a paradox. The gesture honors the best memories of the person while dulling our perceptions of them in the process. Maybe sometimes the raw emotions are too much to handle without liquid courage. Well written, Rita.

Thank you, Christian. Memories are so tricky - warm and sweet, yet so hard to handle at times.
Very interesting, Kind of like saying ''I'll drink to forget'' (sorry if I'm wrong)
I like the poem, this is really good

There is no forgetting. There is only remembering or subconscious avoidance of remembering. This touched me Rita. thank you

Its great to hear from you too Rita. :)
Rita,

There is such pain and loss in this piece. The kind of loss that cannot be made whole ever again. There is no amount of liquor nor tears that can make it be like it was before. I am so sad...

Too true! Thanks, Mark!
what a different style and subject for you Rita .. i am not a scholar and can not say where ..but in the Bible (somewhere) i recall a passage that states that we drink to forget ... i am pretty susceptible to more than one pint of stout beer per day or rarely 2-3 shots of my best Irish whiskey .. and more rare still several shots of good tequila .. anything more than that was long ago given up ... there is nothing worse than a drunken and sick teen :{
the somber melancholy of your poem is poignant and speaks volumes in a shot .. huge stories inside your lines .. love it! nice one!
