A Poem by RivkaZ
"
All tragically true
"

Careful, dears or I'll give you the slip

A penny for orchids and two for your slit

I'll promise you wonders

and bring only woes

I'm not who I seem

Beneath my clothes.

Send me a carriage at the corner of sixth,

And I'll write you a letter for the first time we kissed.

I'm only half-dreaming

I'm not really here

Just a second-hand dandy

and crocodile queer.

One for your money

Two if you show

Three if you're ready

By the time I go.

Gorgeous poem, I just finished an essay on (the wonderful) Oscar Wilde and then stumbled upon this piece. I feel exstatic. This is tragic beauty, and the age you wrote it in is beautifully captured. I loved the lines

"Just a second-hand dandy
and crocodile queer."

I can't believe this has yet to be reviewed, Kev
