Memories

Memories

A Poem by Rowena Slade

They're everywhere.

They follow me.

They stalk me.

They haunt me.

They won't leave me alone.

Everywhere I look

They're there.

Will they ever go away?

Will they ever leave me alone

And let me live my life?

No,

They won't.

They're tearing me apart.

I'm going insane.

I'm not talking about

Anything you can see.

I'm talking about memories.

Memories of death,

Rape,

Abuse,

Abandonment,

And so much more.

Memories,

They can be worse

Than a living thing.

Living things

They can only hurt you for so long.

Memories however,

They last forever.
