some words i wrote

i thought words
and they turned the world afire

i wrote them
and they made men and women desire

i heard a poet sing them
and the world exploded

the pieces filled the sky with rain,
the drops of heat and passion fell
it made my heart to near burst
with want of when
it was
the way it was

when the songs were sung,
that made my heart to wail,
like a wolf
when it howls at the waxen moon
when the air is chill
when the snowy mountain
offers no solace,
but for the words i hear,
that i wrote
that i heard a lonely poet sing
