A Glass of poetry

A Glass of poetry

A Poem by Rudi J.P. Lejaeghere
"

Wine is bottled poetry. Robert Louis Stevenson

"

I’m tasting a poem as a glass full of wine,

the Chateau, beautifully labelled on top

is full of promises, maybe sunshine or a flop,

still there can be a suspicion or a silent sign.

To open the bottle with the first quatrain

you already smell the scent of his bouquet,

is it about red or white, the words will say

if it’s vinegar stuff, you’ll read it in vain.

There has to be an aftertaste, heavy or fine

its character, dark, handsome or full of mystery

tercets with a lesson or ending with a cute line

a few glasses a day keeps me fit without misery

maybe one more, I do believe it’s so benign

although some say, it’s the start of a poet’s insanity.

Hey Rudi, this is beautiful! An Italian sonnet, translated to English from Dutch; I would ignore meter too. Haha. The way you've written this, a poem making references to itself as a bottle of wine; makes this very fun to read. Thanks for sharing. Matt

If a poem is as a bottle of one, I now understand why I have wept over a few. :-) I was drunk. LOL!

I appreciate the fresh perspective. A new idea is always appealing.

I wonder if a few glasses, or a few more, is the poetic prescription? Maybe yes, maybe no, but what can it hurt when it eases so much?

I enjoy reading a poem that creates a fresh approach to how we see. This poem does just that it was simple elegant and as refreshing as the metaphor itself and to that lett me say- "Cheers"

Beautiful....I love the symbolism with tasting poetry and wine and food...absolutely refined and sophisticated. I don't drink wine but I do know how you feel about writing a little every day, or "a few glasses a day..." and how it helps keep misery at bay. You have a gift, my friend. Thank you very much for sharing with me :)
