Crash Course

Crash Course

A Poem by Sarah

Meet and greets in the banquet room

Sipping on coffee, watching lectures

Revisiting commonly asked questions

That we’ve all heard and know, so we don’t pay attention

Sometimes we agree, sometimes we stray

As we discuss our opinions before leavin’ that day

We collaborate our work experiences

With a leap of faith and some confidence

We’ll get through this new, fast training

Learning something, defining a meaning

We aren’t in this alone

We’re in a crash course

Meeting someone new feels like an interview

Recapping your life without a background check

Flaunting your resume with successes

Temporarily forgetting your list of regrets

Wishing you could shake a crystal ball for one answer

‘Cause a magic eight ball responds with the same four

We’ll fall in and out of love

Fate prevails as we evolve

We’ll grow together or we’ll fall apart

Finding love or finding we’re better off friends

For better or for worse

We’re in a crash course

What started off as a blind date

Turned into sharing his last name

As newlyweds settl’n in, they were given clues

And nine months to plan, pink or blue?

As diapers and bottles decorate its room

Until they bring their baby home

They won’t be watching YouTube

Or reading a collection of parenting books

A sponge bath from head to toe

Swaddling soothes baby’s cry into a coo

With feedings every few hours

They’re in a crash course
