Growing Up Happened So Fast

Growing Up Happened So Fast

A Poem by Sarah

Finger painting on the table

Getting more on her than on her paper

Enjoying a cherry flavored popsicle

Wearing it like lipstick, showing off her stained smile

Those were the days that she misses

Now she has a list of responsibilities

And decisions that are up to her

Lookin in the mirror, reflecting back

Being a kid wasn’t all that bad

Growin’ Up Happened So Fast

Daddy took his training wheels off

Holding the seat, didn’t know when to let go

Sharing a drink from the water hose

Learning how to balance, only practice knows

Those were the days that he misses

Now he has a list of responsibilities

And decisions that are up to him

Lookin in the mirror, reflecting back

Being a kid wasn’t all that bad

Growin’ Up Happened So Fast

My first day of school wasn’t too long ago

Packing my lunch and catching the bus

Playing outside ‘til street lights came on

Knowing every neighbor, no one makin’ a fuss

Those were the days that I miss

Now I have a list of responsibilities

And decisions that are up to me

Lookin in the mirror, reflecting back

Being a kid wasn’t all that bad

Growin’ Up Happened So Fast

The time of childhood is so very precious. It not only shapes us, but ultimately shapes the way the world works.

'Growing up happened so fast.' Indeed, and never has this been more true than it is today.

Beccy.
