I Wont Be Around

I Wont Be Around

A Poem by S.E.C.

You stand on that ice rink, smirking at an unsaid joke.

All the while I silently freeze underneath your troubled gaze.

I was told you were broken, unfixable,

Yet I continued on that curvy path, to stand here now.

You were angry, I was too. And though you may have gotten over it,

I have not.

And that unblinking gaze that you use to stand me down

Wont work, not now, not ever.

I'll admit, I was caught up in everything as well,

But that doesn't mean its all my fault.

Sure, you've seen hard things, Death, isolation, riddance of what you knew so well.

But I've seen just as much, even worse at times. I know whats its like

To be walking that tight rope, and then fall off the unseen cliff.

Unlike you though, I had to get back up, on my own,

And catch who was falling beside me.

So you can stand there, and criticize me all you want.

You can listen to my words and let them fall to the floor unaccepted or misunderstood.

You can keep that smudge of a smile permanently drawn across your face.

But I wont be around anymore to listen to your disappointing laugh.

I wont be around.

This is fantastic! thanks so much for sharing it. Though its freestyle I can still determine a very clear pattern and flow and to me that is hard to accomplish without the rhymes... great job!
