A CAT NAMED YOU

A CAT NAMED YOU

A Poem by SHEEMA HUQ

                You,

have often been

an over-dependant companion

a particularly fearsome,

 lumbering, grazing beast,

                   whose prey has been abundant,

for your gratification, or else, to ravenously feast,

a tree

 dwelling creature,

with retractable claws tearing, flesh

with speed and poise,

in

        a

head strong pounce, you display a fiendish,

ruthless style of temperament, to simply, indulge,

whilst thriving on admiration, beholding

                                     many a dysfunction,

                                                then

 with a treacherous,

powerful thrust,  of your strong

back legs, you launch into the air,

eyes firmly placed on where, you intend

to safely land and tread,

using your characteristic,

spine twisting trick,

as, you gracefully fall

 until

 I

 hear,

 once again your, familiar,

                                affectionate call....

I have a rescue cat of my own. I would rather say that I own a rescue cat but
he own's me instead. He is far more creative than I could ever wish to be. Can
make more sounds, can legitimize more situations and hobors no shame. He cares deeply if I don't
change his litter but wont even make a sound if I don't flush the toilet. He can't speak
but speaks. Has developed a taste for flowers and rats which are a gastroesophageal
association I just can't wrap my mind around. He loves and hates me, can
live and survive without me and is my best friend.

Than you again for your affectionate call....dana

My youngest cat, Star, was taken in, after she was abandoned as a kitten. She brings me, much joy and healing by her presence, in my life. Life has never been dull, with Star, Venus and Squeak, around to share life.

On April 7th, Venus and Squeak celebrate their 4th birthday, coming from the same litter.
So cat. They really are amazing. My black cat, Goblin, can leap into my lap and never touch me with a claw.

thanks Norma, meow, lol
nice pacing. I like the different placement of letters and space. It is hard for me to tell at first if it is the cat thinking or you thinking about what the cat is thinking, but maybe I am doing too much thinking !! ;-)

so well expressed...metaphors do wonders....a beast is just the mind and its duality that define together the space and the points of reference....and everyone, some more or some less, and, often or seldom, lose anything external to it....character exposes, perhaps, only the thoughts and the paradigms....the body is either already dead or maybe, will have a natural death in days to come; but surely never interferes except in appearance for to judge who is a cat and who is human....I find this one not only a brilliant poetic composition but also a strong conveying of a message flowing straight from consciousness...best regards,
