Life Lesson

Life Lesson

A Poem by Sagela
"

This poem I read in front of my speech class. I hope you enjoy it.

"

"You are so knowledgeable for your age."

Well then, Father, why don't you have a mature conversation with me

Like two adults of equal status?

Why treat me the age of the normal kids,

And perhaps younger,

Instead of the age my knowledge gives me?

If, like you said, Father

I am so knowledgeable for my age.

"You are so wise for your age"

Well then, Friend, answer my questions with all honesty

Educate me with your life,

So that I can help others with my new knowledge as well

It is not a one way street, Friend,

You are going to help me too when I need it,

Help me become all the wiser,

Dear friend

If, like you said,

I am so wise for my age.

"You are so sweet for your age"

Well then, Mother, why not make me all the sweeter?

Look past my traps

Look past my lies

Look past all my masks and reflectors

If I am so sweet, dear mother,

Then knock down the barriers

And make me all the sweeter

If. like you said, dear Mother

I am so sweet for my age.

If I am so sweet

So wise

And so knowledgeable for my age,

Then why am I treated my physical age?

If I am so great,

Why am I treated so badly?

"Treat others the way you want to be treated."

"Believe in karma"

Why don't we enforce these golden rules

For once in our lives?

Help people out,

Give away a dollar

To those who need it.

Be respectful and kind

For just one day,

And see all the smiles and thank you's you receive.

:D

This is such a profound, insightful write. We would all be better to listen and learn here, from your gentle lesson. This really made me think. Thank you for such moving words!

This poem is an honorable reminder of the aching barriers to soul communication in life, all too frequently from one's own family.

While age is more than a number, it is an inadeqate signifier of soul depth and savvy, particularly in a culture that is largely immature spiritually, young and old. (I calmly and frequently inform religious types that "God" is not a frickin' mythic belief brand; it's Everything and No-thing-ness; Consciousness Itself).

As a vintage dude whose creative practices in literature and music and more keep him forever young, I think it is especially sad there is so little intelligent and deep-hearted guidance for today's youth. It seems a creaky wheel is forever re-invented and society gets more clever at hollowness.

So I salute your forthright expressivity and wish you a life of full authenticity of Being.

I like all of it expect the "You are so sweet for your age" Passage, and it does not make a whole lot of since to me.
How does believing lies, and traps make you sweet? other than that I like the piece. good topic, and the ending is nicely written.
