It's just the character's luck...

Just My Luck

 

I wake up in the morning

At the usual time, eight,

Scrambling to make sure that

To school, I won't be late.

I grab my pack and brush my teeth

And hustle towards my ride,

But my parents don't notice and

Look like they both have cried.

I barely make it in the bus

Before it rumbles on,

But then as I step foot inside

My feet seem to be gone.

The floor of the bus goes through my

Ankles as though they're air.

I see my oblivious friends.

To them, I wasn't there.

I realize that I'm now a ghost,

I'm really a "dead duck."

Well, just another entry in

The book called "Just My Luck."

Author's Note

I tried to make the character not sad or angry, but surprised and cynical. What do you guys think?

Who knows what each of us will say when our time comes and we awake in the spirit to find out we are bodiless! Maybe we'll be happy to have parted with our physical selves. I like your poem.

I have to say that you accomplished most of what you set out to do. I think the character is neither sad nor angry. He does seem surprised - I for some reason read it as a "he." I don't quite think you got cynical. However, the poem is thoroughly entertaining and sad. I think it's an excellent job.
