Listen

Listen

A Poem by Very Old Account

Never say
Never again on that pleasant day
Of darkness and demise
When the world would never end
What do you say?
To those who ask,
What’s wrong?
When you can’t even say it
No, don’t speak it
Just listen to it
And the answers will come
Close your eyes and shut out the light
Of day, don’t say
It, listen
Only listen
Don’t look, don’t wake up
And smell the roses or the coffee
Or the love
Live, love, listen
They don’t want you to speak your mind
They don’t want you to uncover the truth
Ignore those who don’t believe in sound
Their thoughts aren’t sane or sound
Round and round the Earth goes
It took thinkers to discover that simple truth
They listened
The sun, the moon, the stars in the sky
Galaxies have talk to tell, too
Just listen
When she speaks to you, listen
To her words, to her thoughts
Do you ever hear the whispers in the wind?
Have you ever tried to listen to the silence?
To hear it out, word-for-word—shh
Don’t speak, only listen.
