Causes

Causes

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

like global warming

"

Pick the cause you like

and join a happy group

Together you can make a change

that inspires every troupe

The reason we likely join

is we fear going it alone

Dependency on the cause itself

is the failure so often shown

Believing groups have the power

to overcome the odds

Is also depending on them

and their belief in the gods

Mistakes so often made

involve this religious dependency

The universe cares less

as we will likely see

Facts alone are based

on actions that are done

The truth of every action

is how the cause is won

Hindsight has the clarity

clearer than any prayer

Dependency on the gods

is a dubious affair

Attempts to change the universe

are weak in every way

Better to have a cause

that will see the light of day

So easy to dismiss what we do

as valuable for success

We need to believe in ourselves

or we will end our days with less
