Shard of glass

Shard of glass

A Poem by Meera Krishna

'The single glass broke to give a million daughters
Reminding the way a heart broke
But didn't cause any pain like the latter
The pieces had flung like jet and scattered the room
In them was a piece
Large enough to get pleased
For it still looked like the glass
The only surviving daughter of its expired parent
Still some pieces, broken and damaged, stayed together
Unlike the social animals
Who knew what unity meant
And perhaps didn't know what it meant
The girl gathered the broken pieces
And took them to her mother with trembling fingers
Expecting a scolding
For she had broken the glass molding
The mother looked at the remains
and said
It's better to see broken glass then to see a broken world'

I like the metaphor here. The first line is really something I like too. Never heard glass being broken put quite like that.
