My mind relentlessly relays to me,
That image, that moment on the roof,
When first I saw you smile,
And it was clear to me,
That your bright light,
Your incessant glow,
Is what I'd dreampt up years ago,
Looking out, wearily,
Over the canopied valley,
Where bats pitched out the sky,
And the cicadas sang early,
For usually they wait,
Until the war-cries of the native birds,
Have faded to the night,
And I hoped then,
That there were circumstances,
Which could change my stars,
Throw me past the pattern of routine,
And with that brief introduction,
On the night I left too early,
I woke realising --
As the cicadas in the valley,
Even fate can be unhinged.
