Seattle My Drug

Seattle My Drug

A Poem by Saoirse Healy
"

A love poem to my town

"
Seattle Seattle
You make me feel high
Seattle Seattle
When i'm away i just want to cry
Because when i miss your bright city glow
Iv never felt so god damn low

Seattle Seattle
Your always around
Seattle Seattle
From your gleaming lakes to downtown
Your my drug, my coffee rich and dark
Ill never stop thinking of you
Even if im sitting in central park

I've saved this poem for last, Saoirse, because I think you express a genuine sense and affection for place. You open yourself to the greatness of the city, its beauty and you express a connection to it as powerful, or perhaps even more powerful than love for an individual. Cities can enrapture and captivate; the can also disappoint, and as you grow older, you may find shortcomings in your city, but that is only to be expected, and you will never loose your intense love. The conflicts and contrasts make your relationship with it and understanding of it grow. And like love with another person, you can do things with your city, and have experiences with it that fill your heart and inspire gratitude. And it's own beauty and richness respond You certainly feel and know that. Not to be inglorious, but spelling does count; you do not want to distract your reader unnecessarily. Keep writing; I look forward to seeing more. Sorry to have been so late in contacting you, but it has take a long time for me to crawl up off the floor after leaving teaching. Your friend. D. Buerge
