Dusky Rose of Twilight

Dusky Rose of Twilight

A Poem by Katie Lynn

The sun slipped slowly past the clouds,
That formed beyond the lake,
Painted the horizon in a shroud
Of red-orange, as it sank.

I rode my horse across the grass,
I watched the setting sun,
Turn the trees to copper and brass,
Then we went on to run.

The growing clouds darkened then,
The sky a dusky rose,
I sensed the night would soon begin,
As darkness quick enclosed.

The rain came down on faces, eyes,
The shelter of home then beckoned,
And in that moment, realized,
This is my world, my Heaven.

Author's Note

Katie Lynn
This is a first-person narrative based on my own personal experience while horseback riding. One day I was riding around on my horse bareback, when I noticed the sky turn to an amber type color and it softly glowed with gold, but within minutes it was partly overcome by rain clouds. I was rained on, but it was possibly the most beautiful sight I have ever witnessed. Words cannot describe it, but I tried my best. Hope you enjoy.

Good imagery. Reminded me of fall here when the harvested fields are set ablaze and we're blessed with the most beautiful sunsets one could witness. Though the smoke may choke, a setting sun turns the western sky the most magnificent shades of red.

Love the last stanza, and am old enough to have had that same thought so many times.

Well done!

Thank you :-)
Isn't it an amazing experience with something so spiritually enlightening can come out of nowhere? And true; sometimes words simply cannot describe the feeling which in some cases can be frustrating since you would love to convey the sensation in hopes someone else would appreciate it.
