Pull The Grenade

Pull The Grenade

A Poem by Savannah Bly
"

So I did it, to keep us safe.

"
Pull The Grenade
We're standing face to face
But there's space between us
Our eyes meet
And we both know
Our love was strong
The feel of each other's embrace
Got us through our darkest nights
But our love was seasonal
And now, afraid of letting go
Of finding new love,
We stand, facing each other
I know what I must do,
For both of us to move on
I pull out a grenade and pull the pin
One..., two..., three...,
We're running away
Away from each other
The time and place
Our love existed
On fire, burning
And exploding, it's over
In our memories, our love remains
But time and place
Is gone,
Erased by fire
And we are moving on
If I didn't do it
We both would have burned in the fire later
So I did it, to keep us safe,
To save us now
I pulled the pin on the grenade

very interesting piece and sometimes this just has to happen....we may love someone but we do know that eventually that love will kill us...we know we just can't be together, for whatever reason...so we sabotage ourselves to end it before it ends us. An excellent metaphor used here.

Knowing when to let go is the key to moving on. Someone in the relationship has to take the hard decision.
Destroying each other in a lost relationship is never a solution.
Great piece again.

I think this is a priceless masterpiece. Having foresight and the courage to follow your intuition, requires a maturity that many lack. Fantastic work!

Your welcome
Savannah, this is powerful, compelling, and sad. I'm guessing this is a suicide, so they can both go together, and won't have to worry about living without the other....sort of like a Romeo - n - juliet meets rambo? A beautiful, tragic love story gone wrong....with just a hint of uncertainty. Do they run apart fast enough to save themselves from the granade? or is the granade a metaphor for perfect way to permanently divorce yourself from each other and the relationship forever? Either way, a very nice write!

I guess it can really be taken either way. Whether it is a Romeo and Juliet, a metaphor for divorce/.. read more
