A Tug of the Heart Strings

A Tug of the Heart Strings

A Poem by Dalton Wagoner

When I see you
My heart strings make melodies
Perfectly tuned and vibrant
When you speak
An orchestra erupts
When I feel your touch
It's as if Apollo is playing his lyre
My heart strings are in sync
All because of you
You are mine and my beloved
It's a gift to be in your presence
And a blessing to wear you on my arm
Being with you is
A Tug of the Heart Strings

When I see you
A string breaks
When you speak
My strings are unconcordant
When I feel your touch
The apparatus of my heart
Emerges as abject shambles
You left me in anarchy
To clean the ruble myself
And as I pick up the pieces one-by-one
I attempt to recreate my instrument
But it will never be as melodious as the first
Being without you is
What's left of my Heart Strings

Now this is very good. Beautifully written. I like the reference to Apollo, God the Sun, Light, Music...
Very fitting with the mention of the Lyre and the general conception of musical "strings".

I really enjoyed this one, Dalton! :)
