The Girl I Am

I feel so close…

So close to giving in

To giving up

To going down.

In my eyes,

They say,

There is still a darkness

A shadow the sun can’t find.

I’ve tried so hard,

My very best,

To be the girl I am.

But the girl I am,

She’s still confused.

She doesn’t know

What to do…

Or how to say

Everything

That’s still inside

Embedded deep within her soul.

The pain that still consumes her,

It takes over from time to time

And the best she can do

Is will it away with tears and sleep.

But it never fades away…

Never leaves her alone to heal…

The girl I am,

She’s fighting fiercely.

But it’s a losing battle…

And she knows it all to well,

It’s impossible not to see…

It’s hard to stand strong

With temptation still there…

The girl I am,

She can’t control the urge within her

To turn to the worst,

To that which taunts her still...

The girl I am…

She wants the end…

And the end isn’t soon enough…

The girl I am still exists inside the woman. But I find as I get older that instead of endings I hope for new beginnings. A wonderful work.
