Anniversary of Woe

A Poem by Masquerade
"
A touching tale of a woman who tragically lose the love of her life.....
"

Moister wells up
in the reservoirs of my eyes
Glazed, glossy and dark with sadness
they are awaiting the spill
of the inevitable tears

Thinking of you
always yields the same results
and as the tears fall down my cheeks
I reminisce about the times
we shared; the good and the bad
How I miss you so
My heart still aches
after all these years

Nothing could have prepared me
for losing you
Sometimes the pain is too much
for my poor heart to bear
Then there are days
when remembering you
brings me great joy
Sadly, Today is not
one of those days.

Today is a day that
I've dreaded to come
for I knew that I would be helpless
against the painful memories
that now flood my mind
It was eight years ago today
that my life changed forever
Eight years ago to this very day
that they took you away from me

The police said that it was a robbery
yet you committed no crime
There was no gun on the scene
Except that of the store owner
There you lie on the cold concrete
With your life’s blood spilling
from a wound in your back

Robbery? Yes, it was robbery alright
For when they stole your life
They robbed me forever
of all happiness
They robbed me of my soul mate
The one whom I was to spend
the rest of my life with
The father of my “would be” children
My lifelong companion

Yes, today is a very sad day for me,
it’s a re-accruing nightmare
Today…….Is the Anniversary of your death

“….my Anniversary of Woe”
