REDEFINED LIFE

REDEFINED LIFE

A Poem by Red Rose
"

I'm learning the hard way, but learning nonetheless..

"
It's easy, you know. To lose sight.
Of everything that matters. Or should matter.

Have you ever felt worthless? Felt like life is worthless?
I'm pretty sure you've felt that way.
If not, then you must be a saint!

I was rewarded with the opportunity to shun away a major influence of this negativity.
Technology was removed from my life for a few blessed days.
It was difficult.

Me being addicted to phones, television, ... social media.
This hardship didn't come off as a surprise to me.
But then I laid back and embraced it.
I deserved it.
And now I understand how important it is to not waste our life on insignificant matters.

There is so much! Infinite, I tell ya! So much to laugh about.
So much to keep you smiling. So much to give you euphoria..
So much of life away from screens..

In those days of enlightenment I discovered the presence of inanity.
The very inanity of me.
The petty reasons I kept looking for to make my life miserable.
Each moment I missed will not come back.

That radiant beckoning sunshine I ignored for the duplicate light streaming off the TV.
The hearty laughter of my family that I ignored for my lonely chuckle caused by a silly emoticon.
The hours I spent taking pictures of inanimate objects for others to see, when I myself don't truly see.
The days I spent grouching over what others had, and I didn't.

I call them "The Dark Ages".
And they were the days I befriended the imposter of happiness.
Well, not anymore.

Living in this century, disregarding technology has become hard.
But after been given a second chance, I redefined my limits.
Have you? If not, will you?

This is well written and emotions expressed well.

'The radiant beckoning sunshine I ignored for the duplicate light streaming off the T.V.'
'The days I spent grouching over what others had, and I didn't.'
'I call them 'The Dark Ages'.
And they were the days I befriended the imposter of happiness.'

With the above quotes, I can feel a person who gained wisdom due to past experience; a person who's learning to adopt a positive energy in her life and learning from her mistakes.
I see humility, knowledge, experience and wisdom.

WELL DONE!!!

Have never been one to follow certain social media for these precise reasons, Red... What people give up, give away of themselves for just one more 'like' or one more 'follower' is heart wrenching. The time we waste trying to please others who do not truly care for us, who are not truly there for us nor even wish to know us. Keeping negative energy in our lives for the sake of appearing popular when the only people we should be worrying about are those who loves us in return. Family, friends, lovers... They become lost in the screens, to the computers and telephones, the newest gizmos and gadgets. Our precious time lost in strangers. Seeing this recently with a dear friend of mine who chooses to keep these awful influences in her life because they tend to 'like' her photographs... So sad to witness. This story really sparked within me, spoke to me as I have always felt in a similar way. Giving my time to those who are honestly a part of my life and enrich it in their own ways by being there. Bravo! No more dependency.

Okay first off one thing to get off my pecimistic chest...

It sounded kind of backhanded to have the message of use less social media on social media.

Alrighty now that I have got that off my mind time for the real "Constructive" criticism.

I agree with the overall statement it is hard to get away from anything tech related a lot of stuff now a' days require some form of social media to be relevant or to function in the first place the life of convenience is one of subtle addiction and sometimes this can become more damaging than any sort of drug consuming.

Yet again though here we are feeding our bad habits for the sake of creation and criticism.

Sincerely, Sir_Anonymous

I really liked it, and this clearly resonates with many people. Balance, Harmony and looking at the real world outside our digital lives is essential.

wow! what a unique thought of ours. I admire the way things are convincingly portrayed.
and yes, it's a virtual world on internet(even WC).
it's a psychological fact that people become less social using social media. i mean, what the....

There is something about this that is so apologetically real, it's impossible not to relate in some level. love it.

As the old hippies used to say, Drop out and Tune in!

I really enjoyed these lines

"That radiant beckoning sunshine I ignored for the duplicate light streaming off the TV.
The hearty laughter of my family that I ignored for my lonely chuckle caused by a silly emoticon.
The hours I spent taking pictures of inanimate objects for others to see, when I myself don't truly see.

I call them "The Dark Ages".
And they were the days I befriended the imposter of happiness.

And think you and I suspect the same about tech - that it might be a form of ADDICTION.

I kinda touch on that in "Digiverse"

Your poem is a bit more optimistic though - encouraging those to break the chains.

Yet, here we are lol

Good piece. Don't worry about it being "proper" or all over the place.

That's the great thing about poetry. It embraces the rough edges :)
