Today

Today

A Poem by Shane Mohamed
"

Overcoming depression

"

Today

Sometimes I sit, with chin against palm,

Wondering what’s to come upon morrow,

And fighting this depression distilled with calm,

But oft find myself lost in thoughts of sorrow,

Oft, I find myself displeased to my dismay;

And my conscience can do nothing but obey

This heartless monster of dissatisfaction at the ratio

Of sand grains against piles of colorless snow.

Today I slip from the grips of this smothering grief;

Unwilling to give in to the concept of loss

Of mentality, loss of reality, loss of belief.

I am willing to let go of a dismal past, from which I toss;

Toss and turn in wakeful nights, afraid of the cause

Of the squeamish nightmare, which I awfully dread.

I’ve given in many times before, but hence, I conquer instead.

Thank you for the moral boost Nazia.
Fabulous piece of work! So many have this struggle you speak of day in and day
out, and it saddens me. I truly feel for these people that fight to just get through
the day, depression is no joke! I will continue to pray for these
people. That last stanza is brilliant, thanks for sharing and b-blessed!

Yes, depression is no joke. Thank you for the review James.

The concept of loss, the state of depression and the squeamish nightmares seem part and parcel of our humanity in darkest times. So many things we can't control and so many things slip from our daily grasps. I think if humans did not possess this tunnel vision, we can see things in entirety...Excellent work...:).........................

Yep. You are welcome...:).....
Shane, as always great work...can I make a suggestion? ....I have read this a few times and I think if you insert 'the' before 'morrow' makes it flow a bit better. See what you think. But its up to you of course.
Take Care.

No, no. I give you complete credit. I knew it needed something. Thanks for the insight :)
This struggle is very unique when you talk about it I feel, but I do empathize its gravity and realize we all are in some way in this struggle. I love the way you created the piece and its fluid and straight forward delivery.. cheers

Yes, I tried to be as direct forward as I can. Thank you for the support Roshan.
Some days the darkness cracks and a little light shines through. On these days we have only a short window to welcome the light before the darkness returns. I am happy you slipped through. I loved the lines "This heartless monster of dissatisfaction at the ratio/Of sand grains against piles of colorless snow." and "Today I slip from the grips of this smothering grief". Good write!

That is true. In Islam, we are taught that God doesn't test a being beyond his or her means.

Ahh I am soo happy that "today" the speaker was a conqueror. That the shackles of depression did not manage to steal and kill the hope, the laughter and the smile. No resignation -today.
Great job Shane!!
