Because I Loved You

Because I Loved You

A Poem by Sharon

Because I Loved You

I loved you knowing I would get hurt,
I looked for you knowing you wouldn't see me,
I cared for you when all you cared about was yourself,
I know I was not your dream girl but my dream was to be your girl.
I never confessed because I loved you.

When someone hurt you, I would be hurt too,
When someone praised you, I felt proud too,
When someone was mean to you, I wanted to comfort you,
When someone helped you, I wanted to be there too,
I didn't confess because I loved you.

I didn't listen when everyone told me you would hurt me,
I didn't listen when everyone warned me,
I didn't listen when everyone showed me your bad side,
I didn't listen when everyone tried to help me,
I wouldn't confess because I loved you.

I tried to support you but you looked for someone else,
I tried to help you but you didn't think I could help,
I tried to comfort you but there was always someone there,
I tried to be your friend but you didn't want to be mine,
I couldn't confess because I loved you.

I'm broken because you didn't look over,
I'm broken because you didn't notice me,
I'm broken because you never smiled at me,
I'm broken because you never loved me,
I shouldn't have confessed because you never loved me!

"I know I was not your dream girl, but my dream was to be your girl." This was a great line from your great poem. Great work.

I'm sending you a podium to you by way of FedEx!! You need something to scream from when such levels of emotions can be pictured so easily in your poems.... The girls that have loved me have been murdered by strangers, OD'd, and/or left me here on this wicked rock because they suffered a disease that could not be treated. To hear you inside your poems to reach in and give my own heart a pump with your bare fists is unrealistic, but it's "felt" and it's awesome to know that you have found a way to make this come out in poem.... and the repetition of the word " I " actually works again. lol Maybe, I am bias because I like you, but the word is rarely used over and over again in poems. You make it work and it stands out as this pounding on the podium speech that this other person needs to hear.... if only for my sole gratification!! lol Your poem also reads like the constructs of an actual conversation. Your introduction is flawless with getting your points across as you politely "list" what you are thinking of and then you say "I Love You". I felt like my chest was saying it back to you. It's a fun experience to root for someone getting their words and thoughts to paper to make sense. The second stanza to the last one is perfect. You have taken that pause of reflection and go through the motions of explaining how much this hurt means to you, personally. "Because I Loved You" says a lot more than what I thought the title of it meant. The word "loved" is a tough one for me to read. I can read most anything, unless it is about children dying or a girl who peels away those beautiful layers of her heart to give some insight into such raw emotion.... and you did it. It was tough to read in parts, but you did it and did it in a way that it makes it fun to remember this poem and my own experiences in life that deal with the same things. : ) Beautiful Sharihe.... xox -Mark
