HOME COOKING

HOME COOKING

A Poem by TerryDarcy-Ryan akaSheerTerror

a perfect winter day

the fireplace a blaze

dinner a simmer on the stove

ready for warming to the bone

my homemade Irish stew is perfect

for cold winter days and poisoning

you never finished the first bowl

that's when it hit brutal

my combination, the realization

that I disguised your demise

inside a bowl of Irish stew

the first stages were a surprise

attempting to see through confusion

why I would feed you poison

I sat calmly watching the torment

it is only fair at this point

waiting for the man I knew

you began to demand that I help you

to stop it, to fix it, take it all away

the monster shows his face

reaching, sweeping, grabbing for me

with slow sloppy exaggeration

I was prepared for this equation

you are done dealing out pain

only seconds remain

a body doubled over in anguish

tears, real tears to seal the deal

and now you are dead

I like you better this way

back to the perfect winter day

there is always such a mess

with home cooking

Dude, this is truly an excellent story, that unfolds with chills and thrills and anguish and pain as well. I am not good with things of terror, yet this one, I could picture doing to the worst of my enemies...yes indeed...sinister I know...but still a great piece.

How awful the author is evil for it felt nothing; more evil than its victim for there is some commiserating to be done with the torturer and the tormented like Faust and the Devil. In an odd way the truly evil are fortunate among man for they never knew anything else which must be the case for there is no remiss for days other than the days spent with the victim in pain. She might even enjoy hell. The evil often do I am told, even those angels that knew God personally. Well done you write a perfect psychopath. They always did enjoy hell.

Even fiction is true of you I believe. Can one actually have a little bit of the psychopath in them? It's like trying to be a little insane or a little wet. It can't actually be done.

From the innocent title and picture, I wasn't expecting this piece to be as haunting as it was ... it definetely took a turn after the first few lines.
I like the eerie atmosphere of this poem. It makes me imagine a woman sitting apathetically while her husband suffers in agony from the food he's eaten. The overall effect this creates in bone-chilling. I'm not sure what the character did, but something tells me he deserved his fate ... guess that's left to the readers imagination ...

Yet another amazing poem!! I really like how you used the photos along with your words. Normally, a picture of delicious stew wouldn't freak me out, but seeing it right after reading this gave me goosebumps!

Thank you Dark Mist I was just having a little fun.
I saw your interactions with one of my friends and wanted to give your work a look. I was drawn to the illustration, emanating 50's simplicity and charm. (Some of that is fictional, of course) In reading, I was drawn in by feelings of comfort that a happy, family meal can often provide. Then things turned cruel and murderous. Okay, I get it.
It's not my cup of tea, but your writing is good.

The last line! Ha! A woman's work is never done. Even the killin' jus' makes a mess. I did love this and "poetic" justice has very real meaning in this gem. I'm new to reading poetry and am learning from the talent on this site. Right now, I just know what lines or string of words evoke images or sensory feelings. Thanks for contributing to my poetic literacy.
