Tyranny's Soldier

Tyranny's Soldier

A Poem by TerryDarcy-Ryan akaSheerTerror

" children lay their head where monsters sleep "

Dare I tell you of this place

Few men can walk this way at night

Here death walks with every silhouette

thought you knew that

a sound hits hard destroying all light

   darkness falls like a hammer

 innocence is endangered here

dying with conflict and murder

trail of bodies fall one upon the other

until a path is covered

tattered , scattered and fractured

from death’s dance of chance

unclaimed souls lost in transient

a shot in the dark

a flash in the sky

the sound of thunder gives its reply

mother nature is not feared here

slinking, silent, moving precise and near

the enemy, and sorted beasts within reach

children lay their head where monsters sleep

their danger so close and courage sincere

the stars twinkle and luster

to the sound of their slumber

beneath the surface of dreams

Back and forth

a softness weaves

a song of hope and a day of peace

a piece of luck

and the long reminisce

of a better place

Great write. The plight of children in war torn countries always hits you hard. Soldiers try not to look into the eyes of children. Any other barbarity they can take. Will it change. Not if western arms manufacturers have their way.

A very deep and affecting write, Terry.

The plight of the children in worn torn regions is growing more perilous with every passing year. Casualties from genocide, victims of friendly fire, unknowing forced conscription as child soldiers.....the innocents are truly the real victims of modern warfare.

Your piece is very emotional and strongly described. Written to shine a light on the darkness that these children live with every day. One can only hope that the carnage and futility of war will someday cease it's fascination in the human psyche. Perhaps then the innocents of the world can enjoy their childhood in joy, peace and safety.

Bold, uncompromising and very well written work, with striking photos to illuminate your issue. Well Done.

Your words are too true. I went to Africa on three food, water and medical missions in the nineties. 12 years old kids with automatic weapons and faces of killers already. A sad world where children are the soldiers. Thank you my friend for sharing the powerful poetry.
