Coming to America (Part 2) Poetic Story

Coming to America (Part 2) Poetic Story

A Poem by L.G. Knight
"

A young man comes to America with just a dollar... becomes homeless... and finally makes it big.

"

I didn't know what to do just sat on down

Avoiding dirty looks and nasty frowns

But I didn't wait long she was very prompt

So it wasn't to much that my bruised pride was stomped

She took my hand, quite the surprise

And I saw her joy to help in her eyes

We walked to the subway, Bought hot dogs for lunch,

And chatted away while we waited and munched

I told her not of how much I had, just waited to see what her intentions were

I thought if she helped me, when I was more able I'd be sure to help her

I had no idea when I sat with her that day

What surprises and joys were headed our way

She took me to her apartment set me up on her couch

But told me if I was to live there I couldn't be a slouch

I never discussed with her my plans

On how to make myself a better man

Just dressed up in the same suit day after day

As I went out and worked hard getting things underway

It was a lot easier to buy the store front that I thought

The owner was just happy to finally see it bought

I shopped for hours and days on end

Buying tables, ovens and chairs in need of small mends

I bought table cloths to cover up the signs of age

Designed the menus myself, every word of every page

My ambition was such that it only took a couple months

When my restaraunt opened up for lunch

I love it. I think it's great but it definitely cannot finish here. It needs a part 3, part 4 dare say I. It's a great idea, the story is touching, just can't end where it did. Like at all. I'm glad to know he opened his restaurant but I really don't care. I care about the girl and what became of them. His future and how he sees him self now from where he started. There's no lesson if it ends like this. Other than to never give up, but that's implied through-out the entire piece. The moral of the story is?
