Do You Remember?

Do You Remember?

A Poem by Shelby
"

Inspired by R.E.M.'s Nightswimming.

"

Do you remember

Skinny dipping every night

That summer?

Do you remember

Forgetting your shirt on the bank?

Do you remember

Kissing me as I looked up at the moon?

Do you remember

Spending all night beside the water?

Do you remember?

It's winter now,

The river's frozen over.

Things aren't like they were

Years ago,

The sun is losing to the snow.

I remember all those nights.

I miss you.

Do you remember?

Sounds like a hot, romantic summer. Love the story. This old guy remembers his youth, and enjoys his present. Thanks for a vivid reflection. Nice!

I love how you repeated 'Do you remember' several times then near the end you say 'I remember all those nights' and then ask again, 'Do you remember'. It tells me that you cared deeply about those nights and the great times you had with someone that no longer seems to be so prominent in your life; yet you still hold those memories of happiness tightly in your grasp and have hopes that so did he. It's powerful and full of a thing called memories and even though these memories seem to be good ones, I still feel a sting in my heart wondering too if he remembers as well, with a strong feeling that he doesn't. So it makes my heart sad even though it's smiling for the happy memories, which is what we all try to focus on.

I love this poem. This poem really does speak a whole story in such few words. Great job!
