There Is No One

There Is No One

A Poem by John Fitzgerald

it's alright to share your beauty

                                              Alexandria

                       it belongs to everyone,

     like the moon

              when I couldn't sleep

I tried to let my mind wander

but she hung on every wild detail,

waiting for the hour to be up

soon I tried to break in again,

there were a few whispers exchanged,

                 but I didn't really know

what i would say if she had let me speak again

I don't know who I am in the mirror,

      Alexandria

              this isn't my skin

                    this isn't my honour

I have betrayed myself and the world knows

and now I lie here like a stone,

w/in this room, beside no one,

with no one waiting to hurt me,

and no one to share in your beauty

Alexandria and her Pharos. Its beauty ravishing, and coveted by many. I absolutely love how you have build a gorgeous intimate and personal poem upon this ancient world wonder. I love your talent, and will keep coming for more.

Hmm...makes me think of conquering new territories, but having no one to share them with (because everyone is dead or has fled). The one who is victorious of new grounds is actually a loser, because he dared to meddle with what isn't his to take away in the first place and no one cares about his victories after all. I may me so completely off, but this is what I thought of.

I didn't really understand the meaning to this one
Although it sounds like you put allot of thought into it.
It also sounds very deep, filled with emotion, and kind of romantic.
Can you please explain to me, what the meaning behind this was?
