Elements of the Celtic Tradition

Elements of the Celtic Tradition

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce

Fire is the Color Red
Southern bound
Guarded by Archangel Michael
represents the Summer season
where upon from the ground
Thyme, yarrow, fennel, parsley and pepper abound.

It represents health and strength
Passion, sex and courage
Protection, birth and volcanic rock
Stones of which are the garnet dear
and rubies galore.

Earth's Element is Green
represents proseperity
Honey and fertility
Healing and growth
comes from the North
Jade, malachite and emerald
are the beauties that show forth.

Herbs of the Winter season
begin with cinnamon
Basil and bergomot
clove and ginger
boil in our pots.

Sesame and margoram
are guarded by Archangel Uriel.

Air follows next
color Yellow represents it best
showing forth our intellect
and confidence, divination
communication
eloquence
travel and movement to the East
sun shines brightly in Air's Spring.

Stones of which are gold, topaz
and sulphur too-
Plants are frankincense and myrrh
Star Anise and sandalwood-
Guarded by Archangel Raphael.

Finally, Water springs forth
Representing autumn or fall
whichever you prefer-
Color true is Blue
and heals with lapis lazuli,
aquamarine
sapphires bright
turquoise
and peppermint
willow, cedar, hyacinth
lavendar and St. John's Wort
Peace to all with this Element
psychic awareness
and patience
happiness
to the West
as sky and sleep
are granted too-
Guarded by Archangel Gabriel.

These are The Elements
I know so well
And how I tell them
one by one.

Fire crimson
Earth so green
Air is yellow
and Water blue
The Elements
here they are
explained to you.

Enjoy them all
as they control
our lives everyday
and keep us
among the living
until it is time
to pass into that other realm
amongst the final season
of the Beautiful and Sublime.

Majestic Ones on high
merci beaucoup
for these gifts-
Elements
that you have bestowed
upon us here
Earth to stand upon
and live
with Air to Breath
Water to drink-
Fire to warm us
Our skin so fair
and fragile-
The Elements: Fire, Earth, Water and Air.

Beautiful. This poem is almost like a prayer to me, and you displayed all the characteristics of the elements very well. Well done! : )

I remember this re-post for its great vivacity. I love some of the names of the herbs abd the stones. I tried to work out which I preferred most...green of earth seems very appealing, jade, malachite and emerald...green eyes would undo me. But then the confidence of yellow also appeals, the joy of it. Think I'd prefer jade and emerald to topaz though...and all that brightness can be too much sometimes. But if yellow is about communication... But I love swimming, love water, which often is said to represent emotion...and what better colour is there than royal blue ink? Sapphire beats topaz...but jade wins, at least for me.
