If Money Were No Object

If Money Were No Object

A Poem by SilverInk

If Money Were No Object

If money were no object, I’d throw caution to the wind.

I’d run a mile in flip-flops,

Down and back again.

If money were no object, I’d taste test jellybeans.

The kind that come in vibrant hues,

Like orange and pink and green.

If money were no object, I’d train unicorns.

In flowing gowns we’d sing and dance,

We’d need no uniforms.

If money were no object, I’d be forever free.

But it seems freedom is only acceptable

To a tolerable degree.

I love this in so many ways. I love the rhyme & rhythm which have a similar effect to the limerick, as far as being playful to read. I love that all your examples have nothing to do with whether one has money or not, so it feels like a sarcastic spoof on people who put off living becuz of some artificial monetary concerns. Last but not least, I love the wild-a*s imagination used in choosing the various activities described with playfulness & sass. The final line is so perfect, as far as being only a half-hearted endorsement of freedom – so sarcastic. I love it. I know, after reading this, the narrator is not going to have any freakin’ reservations about living out all this nonsense to the fullest. This is an announcement that he/she is going for it. I love when the true meaning of a poem is the opposite of what is evidently being said (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
