Behind the Closet Door

Behind the Closet Door

A Poem by Janice

Everyday I bleed a tear
Not for love, not for fear
But for those whose ignorance seems so bliss
Who spew out prejudice and hatred...
Such as this:

Dyke and f*g
F****t in drag
Butch and gay
Won’t they just disappear and go away?

Homo, Queen
Messed up genes
Don't ask don't tell
They should all burn in hell

HIV
It’s all the same to me
Fruits and Bi
Maybe they’ll all get AIDS and die

Fairies, Trannies, and Auntie Em
God will surely condemn all of them

Transgender, Transvestite
Such a terribly horrifying and appalling sight
Shemale?
So make up your mind sicko, male or female?

LGBT
What’s the difference, their all queer to me..
So creepy!

So tell me my friends, is this the way it should really be?
As I sit here in front of you, but you’re all to blind to see

Although, I myself am also gay
You talk with me every single day
I ‘m so disgusted at what you all say

Because, I’m the woman who also works next to you
Guess what my friends; I, myself, am also a “Lesbo” too
But you, you all have not even but a single clue

Because I, myself, am also very femme,
And I hate the way you talk about the rest of (them)
So today I will break the shocking news
And put to shame all of your revolting views
And step out of my closet and up in your face
Not to fight, but to state my case...

That you have all loved me from the very start
And loved me for my beautiful heart
The same heart that you’ve hurt so deep and profound
As I listened to all of your snide remarks, yet I made no sound
So look at me now and tell me if you still feel the same
Since I still possess the same heart and the same name

Do you still love me for who I am?
And if you don’t...Well, then I no longer give a damn!
Slam!
Now that’s who I truly am...
Me...And I’m now alas set free!
My closet is empty, my chains and shackles now fall to the ground,
I will never again allow you to imprison me, and make not a single sound!

This is such a wonderful work..you have all the right to be what you like..
i always loved your work and your person and what you say here is very brave
and its your right to choose whatever you like and still be that same lovely
lady I have always known and admired your works a lot..
For me its the personality and the soul of someone which could be really so shiny
its his works ,his words and his behaviour that reflects who he or she really is..
I have known you as a very creative artist, your works were very dear to me
and your person is so dear to me too..
such a wonderful brave write..

A very wonderful piece. I truly enjoyed reading it once you set the flow. The beginning needs some work with the flow and rhythm. Especially with your transition from "prejudice and hatred..." to "such as this." Ending it on hatred almost throws it off and the ellipses feels unnecessary. However, the flow of the terms and how different definitions of being "part of the queer word" or being different from the "normal heterocentric world". I really love how you went about including both "politically incorrect" terms and "offensive" terms. I put them in quotations because it's all subjective really. Extremely well done and the rhyme is brilliant.

There is some awkward wording in the last three stanzas. They simply don't flow as perfectly as the rest but they conclude the poem wonderfully. They display the point of the poem and emphasis morals and judgment and coming out and accepting yourself for who you are without caring about how others judge you because it's their prerogative and all that lovely stuff. The emphasis on "Slam!" is one of the main things that threw the flow off for me. It felt like it was too reaching (no offense meant). But otherwise... this is an amazing piece that is very well written and exposes several truths about the world we live in and the people around us.

A declaration of ... not war ... independence. I just read a story about religious persecution in Eastern Europe. Labels, lies, spies, hate and suspicion. Calling those who were of the minority "mentally ill" and degenerate and this was fomented by the clergy against people who wanted to worship God as they saw fit.

In Nazi Germany, Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses and Homosexuals joined the Jews in the camps. Barbarous anti-human small minded fear mongers be damned.

Your poem was passionate and pointed and true. I would like to say that I love you as a fellow human who is trying to find the way amidst all the crap. I am not gay but listen to meI love you. There are lots of us out here; middle aged, balding, overweight men who probably seem threatening and may to varying degrees be threatened still, but who when pressed to process their deeper feelings will discover that they truly love and admire you.

YES!

I love you.
This is such a great poem. I seriously can't stand all homophobes and ignorant people out there. I just want to slap 'em on the head and tell them how stupid they are. Show them how reality is--that people can't choose the way they're born. And that the decisions that a person makes in life are their decisions. As they make their own decisions. Way of living.

People are so goddamn annoying these days. I wish I lived in the cavemen era...everyone walked around naked and no really cared who ya dug or what you looked like.

Also, these are the main reasons I choose some people as my friends. Every single point in here is absolutley correct and if I can't expect a person to be able to be nice to a person and accept diversity then they're not my type of friend.

This couldn't have been written any better!
Awsome write! This is great.
I truley did love it. Sorry for the long review. I just had a lot to say--it's a wonderfully written poem.
