No One Smiles Anymore

No One Smiles Anymore

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

Rhymes take the place of happiness that was once a reality. Rhymes are second to smiles.

"

There was a time when I felt alive

A time when I didn’t need to rhyme

A time of love and happiness

A time that was infinite

A world where purpose and friendship, wants, freedom and greed were life

A time where smiles were not faked

Where playgrounds beckoned and a loving parent always watched

There was a time when beating a video game and finishing my homework was a struggle

A place that was full of adventure without danger

I would explore my mind that was whole, and live every second hungry for the next

Belief that good feelings and love were the true answer behind everything

The true answer was a lie

There was a time when I truly felt alive

Now I feel nothing

But if I said I felt like giving up, I’d be bluffing

Snuffing the flames of my soul is bull

Still, those who stole happiness are not to blame

Living free from pain is insane, it’s not so plainly easy

And while I feel queasy over the fact that things will never be the same

I don’t feel like that makes the claim that I deserve it because no one smiles anymore

I very seldom reply to reviews, but I promise I read EVERY single one. I look forward to my next review, because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be ecstatic to have the chance to hear what you have to say. Whenever you write something about my poems, or the themes of my poems, or criticize me it is not in vain. I will listen, learn and be thankful.

Very touching write - into every life rain must fall and days of carefree youth can be tainted by events, people, disappointments, the weight of living - keep smiling anyway, maybe you'll get a few smiles back - good work :)

No one smiles anymore is a very true sentence. I like how you always write honestly and heart touching words. Keep going.

That was like a glove slap to my face "A time when I didn’t need to rhyme" LOL. Interesting observation, as we age the smile does become a weapon of deceit and misdirection for many, so a smile cant always be trusted. And misunderstandings often become unbreachable and one can become unfeeling within. Well done Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

Wow! This offers such nakedness. So true. Disappointing.. But true. Thumbs up for putting yourself out there.. Being with yourself and the way things are is the appropriate path to take.:-)
