The Princess Rules (Take 2)

The Princess Rules

A princess mustn’t ever say

“Yuck or Ick or Eww!”

When presented with food

That she would never chew

“Oh, no!” declared Miss Emily Sue

“I’m afraid that simply will not do.”

She must remember always

All have different tastes.

And never judge another’s,

Using utmost haste.

Instead, refrain from comment

Or politely look away

Sometimes, it is not what you do,

As it is, what you do not, say

And a princess mustn’t ever

Complain while waiting in a line

Never push ahead of others,

Tap her feet loudly, sigh or whine.

“Oh, no!” declared Miss Emily Sue

“I’m afraid that simply will not do.”

No, a princess should always wait

With calmness, patience and with grace

Insisting graciously, “You first!”

A lovely smile upon her face

A princess should never call names

To either friends or enemies

Say you can’t play or join in

and give them the cold shoulder freeze.

“Oh, no!” declared Miss Emily Sue

“I’m afraid that simply will not do.”

A princess should use an inside voice

When talking with a friend

And always say “I’m sorry.”

To a friend, she did offend

A princess mustn’t ever laugh or snort or snicker,

When stumbling, her brother falls upon his head.

For that would surely make him kick her

And turn his fair face, fire engine red.

“Oh, no!” declared Miss Emily Sue

“I’m afraid that simply will not do.”

We all have days we’re not so graceful

Days, when everything goes awry

We tangle up our words and feet

Despite how very hard we try

Instead, refrain from comment

Or politely look away

Sometimes, it is not what you do,

As it is, what you do not, say

So just how should a princess act?

These rules will help complete the task.

She should always use her manners

Say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and ‘God bless’

Be polite, considerate and kind.

And should always clean up her mess.

A princess should always be refined,

When partaking at the table.

Have her napkin neatly ‘cross her lap

and keep her elbows off the table.

“Why, yes,” declared Miss Emily Sue

“These are the things a princess must do!”

“One crumpet only, small bites, please

Daintily dab wee crumbs from your lips

Gently pick up the china teacup

Pinkie extended, swallow small sips.”

Now that you know what’s expected

Now that you know every rule

Rest assured that you’re selected

To graduate from princess school.

Love to know what you think on this new version. Does it still need more? I also changed the font from the last version. I liked it, but I felt it was too hard to read and was distracting-is this better? Thanks as always for reading and commenting!

This is just lovely, Sharon! Nice message too, and not just for little princesses. I'm looking forward to seeing this with illustrations.
