Again, and Again

Again, and Again

A Poem by Sleep Practice

the street is crowded

your skin is too tight and your mind and body separate

buildings tower over you and people push into you

you look into lit rooms through heavy eyes and see entire lives

you see everyone around you but you dont see yourself

it doesnt matter where you're going and it doesnt matter where you are

you see people you will never know and rooms you will never enter

you are tired

but your legs carry you on

to places you have already been

to people you have never met

you see things you cannot touch and lives that will never touch yours and it makes you ache

you want to know how things look

how they smell

and taste

and sound

and feel

but you cannot stop because you aren’t yet where you are going

and the places you have been you will see again

and the people you pass will never be your friends

you long to know

you long to be where you have never been

and to feel what you have never felt

to hold what you have never held

and to stay

and to sit

and to sleep
