Closer Than Before

Closer Than Before

A Story by Sleep Practice

louder

and heavier

and hungrier

you say goodbye but it's only temporary

you come back in the nautical twilight

when the lights are off and the doors unlocked

when you are unexpected but not unwanted

you open the door and step in

the rooms look large until you enter them

the hallways, shorter than they appeared

you pass through a heavy velvet curtain

and stand in the back yard

something about the trees

something about the flowers

makes you nostalgic

you move through the thick curtain and find yourself inside

the floors and walls are bare and it's raining

light yawns down the hall

a cracked door in the distance

you stand in front of the door after only a few steps

the light is grey

a deep and inviting grey that you want to sink into

you open the door

and step in
