I remember a time

I remember a time

A Poem by SleeplessVolcano

I remember a time
when I could just do it
without thinking
and I'd do a victory lap - twice.

Now, I second-guess myself
I stumble in this haze
of self-inflicted doubt
bowing before the throne
of paralyzing procrastination.

I remember a time
when my opinion
was sought after
and my voice
was a beacon
to those stuck next to the road.

Now, I have engine trouble
next to a road I'm not sure
I should have been on.

Guess the fable was spot on -
Not knowing where I'm going
has taken me places
I did not want to be
and the overdue account
charged to my numb heart
silenced these nagging voices
until
I remember a time....

Ah, but sometimes not knowing where one is going is the greatest sport of exploration. I wonder why everything has to be planned so. But I suppose the older we get, the more inclined we are to become lost or need directions and things once exhilarating become fearful. Here's to happy destinations, regardless of plans. Good read.
