The purple pebble

The purple pebble

A Poem by SleeplessVolcano

High above the icy water line

I found a purple pebble just by chance

I reached below and tried to make it mine

But gone it was after a second glance.

Could that wave have stolen my bright find?

Or did the sunshine play a trick on me?

I wished the ocean would again be kind

And shower me with pebbles from the sea

Glints of color flashed over the beach

My purple beauty I could see again

But in a flash it wasn’t in my reach

Have I descended to a robber’s den?

Behind a boulder I could now see

That what I thought was rock had its own life

Its flight now gave my heart a remedy

That nature’s beauty can redeem my strife.

Like Christine below, I was drawn by the mention of purple in your title ;) I'm usually not into rhyming poems (anymore) but this I like, for the rhymes do not seem forced in all except for in the 3rd stanza (but that's just my opinion). I like the imagery in this piece. I'd definitely keep a purple pebble if ever I find one! :D

i like the title...it drew me in...rhyming and language not quite my favorite in this one Sleepless ... i like the moment with the ocean and surprising "treasure" it can hold ... your note and poem remind me how our eyes can easily be deceived ... Mother Nature can be quite the trickster. ;)

Thanks Chris....I'm educating myself on all the hues colors possess while peering into the ocean :) Next one will be indigo...

Indigo sounds good. I'll look out for it:)
I was drawn in at the mention of purple. I love all things purple. I also have a great love for nature, so there was plenty that satisfied me in your poem. Thank you.
