Fudgesicle

Fudgesicle

A Poem by Andromeda
"

for my best friend

"

Bright flash of

Light and

Ramen Noodle childhood

Springs back into sight and

There I am again—

There I always am

            (Again),

There and

No other memories in sight

Except for

You

            A

            N

            D

Me,

Empowered by

The smell of strong chlorine

And of summer rain

Dripping

            U

            P

From the pool depths,

Which glow like a cavern

By a lantern lit.

And—

Throughout it all,

Spread like whip-cream

Over my only memory—

The bitterly sweet taste of

Sugar-free Chocolate Popsicles,

Melting in the sun,

Before they hit our tongues;

And

            Praying

That their tops won’t

            S

            L

            I

            P

Into the pool water

And be lost forever

With the ladybugs

That drowned last summer.

Bright flash of light

Brings me back

To today,

With you

And your voice

Laughing through the

Timeless telephone wires.

Suddenly I am craving a

Sugar-free Chocolate Popsicle

And the pool that vanished from my backyard five years ago.

This is very well written and unique. I really like the "Ramen Noodle" reference and the pool. A great reminder of past times and friends. Excellent!
