New York

New York

A Poem by Andromeda
"

...

"

She came with the words of Billy Joel:

In a New York state of mind,

Hoping just what she would find,

Wondering what she had declined

By leaving the job and leaving

The man who’d

Given her dishes to clean for

Twenty years

And twenty thousand

Nights of tears.

She came on an airplane

Boarded by vacationers and was the one

Who would stay behind—

Warm hand hard to find led to

Divorce in shaky hand signed.

She came in a New York dream,

Wanting to scream

And dance in the rain to forget.

And she came in a New York dream,

Wanting to toss the ring

From her finger to the drain,

And let that just be it—

Freedom just be it.

Watch the fireworks

Of the Fourth of July

Laughing in the sky—

Drown out her California lie

And ocean-love goodbye.

Freedom just be it.

Please,

Freedom just be it

In a New York state of mind.
