Mud and Moon

Mud and Moon

A Poem by Soma-ko
"

Poem.

"

A moonflower blooms under

A broken palanquin, as people

Gather among a tiny pond, just

A few feet away, to write poetry

About a young lily, who has begun

To stretch her frail arms.

The moonflower, gazes curiously

Towards the huddle of people, who

Praise the lily’s dainty palms, that

Hide the mud beneath her body.

A splendid moonflower, watches

The brilliant lily yawn, feigning

Beauty, and yet, he still admires

Her dauntless bash smile.

The moonflower, parched, stays

Silent, as he listens to the people,

And their renditions of the lily.

Silent, as he begins to breathe

Slower and slower, until he closes

His eyes, for he has memorized

The lily’s eyes, her mouth, her.
