A Fish

A Fish

A Poem by Scarlet Letter
"

An old poem of mine I found the other day.

"

Swimming 'round and 'round,

Walls off glass encase it from the world,

Able to look out,

Never able to leave,

Foolishly searching for an exit.

Constantly drowning without realization,

Reaching for a breath of air,

Knowing it could lead to death.

Scraps are tossed on the surface,

It eats--

And resumes its swimming,

Safe in its little box.

'Round and round,

Slowly going insane.

Nothing can cause it harm

No surprises,

Nothing out of the ordinary,

Alone...

It watches the world from afar

Unable to live in it,

Not actually apart of it.

This is its life

This is my life

I am a fish.

I want to break the glass and take you back to the ocean or river where you belong. No one, human or animal, is happy living in a cage. This poem has sparked my imagination.

We all have to percieve the world from our own little fishbowls, the world outside it is a distorted vision of what its like out there. Cute read.

this is very interesting. i like the fact that you actually wrote about this. i used to think about this a lot when i was little and for some reason, the life of a fish in a tank always disturbed me. the scary thing is that there are some humans that live this way as well. thanks for posting. :)
