Make Me Pretty

Make Me Pretty

A Poem by Marlena

Oh my,

What a pretty plastic face you have

And, oh, look at this,

on the inside you're hollow

a plastic girl, perfect curves, a virtual size zero

you're a model for the kids to follow

a pretty, beautiful fake hero

you'll remind the girls not to eat too much

and when the kids call them fat

you will be their crutch

turning the little girls into brats

prissy and prancing

jeering and taunting

they'll be dancing

revealing and flaunting

the body you told them to have.

In all honesty, I don't know what sparked this but it's written mainly because I hate Barbie dolls and the unhealthy images they promote for kids. Love to hear your input on this ^^

This has a really good point. The Onion online news made an awesome spoof of this only on Bratz dolls, and made fun of it with the size of their heads. Great way of putting out your disgust though =)

I so agree with your point with this! I hate the stamp society puts on what is or isn't pretty or acceptable! 'Be a size 0 and the world will love you'. what BS!
Thank you for making the rest of the world stop and think!

I don't know what sparked it, but you definately hit the mark. That is right on target. Women are conditioned to put all of our eggs into the beauty basket. We are encouraged to be thin, gorgeous, never age, and not talk all that much. Congratulations on contronting the status quo. I hope you will consider joining my writes group, Writing to change the world. You definately have the qualities of the kind of writer I am seeking. Reading your writing was reinforcing for those of us who place character above traditional beauty, and materialism, both highly valued in our cuture.

i think that it is true that a barbie is a bad role model for kids. no madder what they r told they think that it is the only way to live in this world and fit in is they have to b so small and wear a damn size 0

I agree 190% and then multiply by a million! This is an Excellent piece addressing a very important issue that should have been long ago, and desperately needs to be now. The damages caused by such things and the medias portrayal of what is desirable is so out tune with the reality of life that is not funny at all...not when it causes people to harm themselves over it. Whether they starve themselves to try and obtain an artificial and unattainable look or cut themselves and the like to make themselves feel better about who they are and how they look. This is a really, really Outstanding piece of work. Thank you for sharing this and addressing such an important issue that keeps being swept under the rug! Brilliant!
