Moment

Moment

A Poem by Doug
"

I just had a memorable moment the other day and thought i would write about it.

"

i’m speeding down a country road in a cool,
blue sky hour before dusk, summer breeze
from the open windows scours the crevices
between the goosebumps on my arms

mother nature’s untamed fashion sense
shakes me into a fresh state of awareness,
my eyes strain the tense muscles of my neck,
an effort to capture a memory for old age

rock music throbbing from cracking speakers
adds dimension to the scene, my fingers twirl
the volume knob as my right foot stresses
the accelerator, freedom animates my hair

This reminds me of one of my long distance drives through the desert. Everyone's had those drives where their alone with their music and thoughts as natural panoramas unfold all around them. It's times like that that give the mind peace enough to think. I remember reading in the book Rant by Chuck Palahniuk that drives like that where the mind zeroes out is in a type of time span called liminal time. It's these points in a person's time when their mind is open to visions and prophecies. Pretty cool stuff. I would recommend expanding this a bit, maybe inserting a stanza about what was going through your head as you drove through this landscape.
